11 Reasons why you should use Telegram instead of Whatsapp

By | August 31, 2023

The principles in this article were initially published back in 2017. There are many updates available for both platforms that I just haven’t included here.

WhatsApp is the most engaged top social messaging application owned by the giant Facebook corporation. WhatsApp was one of the biggest “gulps” at the time when Facebook tapped it for acquisition. It is a known fact that the majority of smartphone users are using WhatsApp, so if there’s an alternative messenger worth furrowing your brows over, it might be Telegram. However, many geeks and techie freaks prefer Telegram because it allows them to cherish their privacy with end-to-end encryption and customization.

History

When Jan Koum and Brian Acton were still working for Yahoo! in September 2007, they travelled to South America for a break from work. When their travel plans changed, the duo applied for jobs at Facebook but didn’t get accepted.

In 2013, the Telegram project was created by two brothers– Nikolai and Pavel Durov, who had previously founded VK, a social media site in Russia. The two were forced to leave the company after it was taken over.

How is Telegram better than Whatsapp

All your texts, images, and media files are saved on the Telegram cloud. You can log in any number of times from any number of devices, without worrying about reducing your data or having to worry about backup restore. You can see which devices you’re logged into at a given time, and you can also download files from anywhere at anytime for free.

As of today, we’ve removed the cap on total file uploads. Our upload limit is now up to 2GB per file, which doesn’t include a cap on the number of files you can upload.

  1. Media compression

Users can choose whether they want to compress the video or send the original, uncompressed version.

There are two ways you can send an image. If you’re confident in the quality of the imagery, then choose RAW as your option in order to preserve it. If you’d like to save time and space by compressing the images, but without compromising on quality, then select Compressed.

  1. Group member number capacity

There are no maximum capacities set in these popular social media apps, and they can be used freely without any risk of viral growth.

  1. Username feature

I read somewhere that WhatsApp is now planning to bring that feature soon. You’ll be able to communicate with anyone on Telegram, even if you don’t have their number saved in your address book. In order for the user to maintain their privacy, the app will only respond when they grant permission.

  1. Channels

A channel is somewhat similar to groups, which can allow an unlimited number of members to participate. The creator of the channel decides who can post and others view posts made on the channel.

6 Multi-platform support

Telegram is available for all of your favorite devices. You טלגרס can use it through your mobile phone, tablet and even on the desktop or laptop. It’s accessible through both IOS, Android and windows devices. Plus, you can use it on any browser!

  1. Secret chat

Secret chat is a kind of end to end encrypted chat in which one can set self-destruct timer. The messages will be automatically deleted when the timer hits. It is not possible for hackers to hack into any way.

  1. Bots

The best way to describe Caption Bot is it’s a piece of software which relies on AI and machine learning at a small level. It can perform various tasks, such as retrieving images from the website name.

There are many types of bots online, some popular ones include sticker bots, gif bots and image bots.

  1. Voice calls & Video calls

The latest version of telegram supports both voice and video calling. This feature is missing in WhatsApp and it was probably the most-requested by users. The user experience of both platforms is almost the same, so there’s no significant difference.

  1. Sends any kind of file

Telegram allows users to send videos, images, and documents of any file type. WhatsApp limits video, image and document files which is very difficult for many people.

  1. Multiple sessions

Telegram was designed for users who like to receive and send messages at the same time across multiple devices.

It’s a cool feature, can’t forget about this.

With Drafts, you can store messages for your contacts. If you’re trying to send a long message, and want to go back later, all the text will be synced across all of your devices. You’ll be able to send it again from another device.

Pros of WhatsApp

  1. End to end encryption everywhere

WhatsApp, which is owned by Facebook, requires that end-to-end encryption be used in all conversations. Telegram, on the other hand, uses it only for secret chat.

  1. More number of users are there in WhatsApp

WhatsApp has more users than telegram.

My experience has been that Telegram is better than WhatsApp in many ways. The app is updated and boasts a wide variety of cool features on a regular basis. So, as far as I’m concerned, it’s the way to go!

A lot of WhatsApp users are either switching to different messaging apps or leaving the service altogether. The updates to WhatsApp’s privacy policy have been causing a rift within the community, which is actually probably a good thing for Telegram. Thanks to this moment of discord, Telegram has surpassed 500 million active users and become one of the most widely-used chat messenger services in 2017.

By agreeing to the new terms and privacy policy, you’ll be acknowledging that Facebook subsidiaries have access to at least some of your data. Importantly, messages, photos, and other content can still only be viewed by the sender and recipient with WhatsApp’s use of end-to-end encryption.
